Christine received a Diploma (Honours) in Geography, Biology and Geology at Philipps-University of Marburg. In her diploma-thesis she analysed impacts of the introduction of apple cultivation on socio-economic regional and forest developments in the Nepalese Himalayas. During that time she has spent nine months in Nepal.
Additionally, Christine holds a PhD in Geosciences (Meteorology) from the University of Hamburg. In her doctoral thesis she utilized GIS as integrating tool in studies dealing with sustainability and global change. During her PhD she was associated with the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modeling. She studied further in Switzerland, Italy, and the USA. Among others, she has worked as a Wadden Sea guide.
The main focus of her research lies in the spatially explicit analysis of land use change effects on landscape, society and ecology. Christine specialized in the evaluation of interactions between competing utilization demands of humans and the environment. She utilizes interdisciplinary methods to find sustainable solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation options. Christine has substantial interest in wetlands and high mountain systems.
Christine currently holds a postdoc position in the EU-funded Project EuroGEOSS
